Publication: HeaLinks – Issue 4

This issue focuses on the various efforts and funding avenues that Singapore has for clinicians to pursue their interests in research. There are increasingly many opportunities for clinician-researchers to continue their medical careers here, with more protected time for research. We also feature 2 institutions – Institute of Mental Health, striving toward being the leading mental health centre in Asia by 2012 and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, on schedule to open in 2010 with 2 nursing homes in close proximity to provide a seamless spectrum of healthcare services. Singapore’s Chief Nursing Officer, Ms Pauline Tan tells us more about her career and her vision of the future of nursing in Singapore in “Take Five!”

In this issue, we talk about how Singapore is moving from preventive to palliative healthcare delivery to meet the needs of our ageing population. We also feature Mr Michael Ong, a Senior Radiographer and President of Singapore Society of Radiographers on "Take Five" - which profiles healthcare professionals on their career in the public hospitals. Not forgetting to mention, Singapore, has been constantly ranked as Asia's number 1 place to live, work and play, proving its resilience even when facing a period of uncertainty.
